Pathology

A nurse will take some blood samples. They will be sent to the lab to check the red and white blood cell count, the function of the kidneys and the liver, and to detect signs of inflammation. These samples are also used to determine triglyceride and cholesterol levels.

It will also be screened for prostate cancer and metabolic disorders (diabetes or gout).

With your consent, an AIDS test will also be done.

urine sample will be taken to test for albumin, sugar and other abnormalities.

hemoccult (checks for traces of blood in the stools) is also done when one doesn’t undergo a colonoscopy.
