Dear patients,
We would like to inform you about the upcoming RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) immunization campaign in Belgium starting from October 2024.
RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis in young children, which can lead to serious complications requiring hospitalization.
Why protect your child?
The immunization protects against severe RSV infections by administering a dose of (Beyfortus®), providing protection for 6 months.
Who is eligible for this immunization?
- Children born between April 1, 2024 and September 30, 2024.
- Children born after October 1, 2024.
When should the immunization take place?
- Children born between April 1 and September 30, 2024:
- The injection must take place between October 1 and October 31, 2024, just before the RSV infection season.
- After this date, INAMI will no longer reimburse the injection (non-reimbursed cost: €777).
- One injection is required, costing €8 to €12
- Children born after October 1, 2024:
- The injection can be administered directly at the maternity ward.
How to proceed?
- Send an email to info@medicis.be subject (IMPORTANT) « to Dr. Giovinazzo- RSV Immunisation » if your child is eligible and weighs more than 5 kg, providing:
- Name + date of birth
- National registry number (NISS) + identity card or ISI+ card number
- I will encode the prescription on your child’s identity card or ISI+ card and submit the reimbursement request.
- Buy Beyfortus® at the pharmacy. Please note, it must be kept refrigerated and can only be stored out of the fridge for a maximum of 8 hours.
- Schedule an appointment for the injection between October 1 and October 31, 2024, via our website or by phone at 02 762 03 25.
Special cases:
- If you were vaccinated against RSV (Abrysvo®) during pregnancy and your child was born at term, they are not eligible for this immunization.
- If your child weighs less than 5 kg, please contact the pediatric department of the hospital where he was born.
