Cardiology
The electrocardiogram (ECG) records the electrical activity of the heart.
This registration is done at rest, during exercise (on a home trainer) and after exercise (recovering phase).
The intensity of exercise is increased every minute during the stress test. This is done under the supervision of a specialist. The blood pressure is also registered during and after effort.
This test lasts between 5 and 9 minutes according to your physical fitness and endurance.
This test requires your full cooperation.
This test gives valuable information about the health of your heart and blood vessels. Anomalies such as coronary insufficiency or arrhythmias can be detected. It also gives an idea of your physical fitness and your aptitude to sport.
The Metabolic Syndrome
Definition :
Metabolic Syndrome is a new concept of preventive medicine. The symptoms are as follows: abdominal obesity (waist measurement), moderate arterial hypertension, excess sugar in the blood, the lowering of cholesterol HDL (good cholesterol) and the rise in triglycerides.
When at least three of these factors are present we refer to the “metabolic syndrome”.
Why fight it ?
It is shown that it is a major risk factor in cardiovascular diseases. It also considerably increases the risk of diabetes, which in turn frequently complicates cardiovascular disease.
The risk factor is considerable: in Europe it affects more than 30% of the population aged 50 and over.
What to do ?
In the event of metabolic syndrome, it has been proven that if an individual can reduce their weight by 10% and exercise for two to three hours per week, the risks can be reduced by as much as 50%.
Dietary advice and, possibly, medication can positively affect the factors leading to metabolic syndrome.
More specific treatments are still being studied.
