Frequently asked questions

Do you need to fast for all exams/ investigations ?

No, some test do not require any fasting. If unsure, the referring doctor can advise you accordingly.

How long do you need to fast for a glycaemia test ?

Fasting is required for 6 to 8hrs.

Do you need to fast for the Cholesterol test ?

Yes, you will need to fast for 12hrs.

Do you need to collect first morning urine for a urine test ?

No, unless indicated by your doctor.

Can I drink prior to any blood test ?

Yes, you can drink water and/ or a coffee ( but without milk and/ or sugar)

What do I need to do for a lactose test ?

The lactose test needs to be done on an empty stomach. You will be given a lactose based solution to drink then a blood test will be collected every 20 min for a duration of 1hrs 20 min.

What do I need to do for the insulin tolerance test ?

The insulin tolerance test needs to be done on an empty stomach. You will be given a glucose based solution (75gr of glucose) to drink then a blood test will be collected every 30 min for a duration of 2hrs or more as indicated by your doctor.

What do I need to do for the O'Sullivan test ?

The O’Sullivan test needs to be done on an empty stomach. You will be given a glucose based solution (50gr of glucose) to drink. A blood sample will be collected an hour later. Patients are required to remain onsite while waiting for the blood test to be collected.

Are appointments required ?

Appointments are not required but you will need a doctor’s referral for all tests ( including Pregnancy and HIV test ) .

Can I make a semen analysis at Medicis ?

Not at Medicis. You need to make an appointment with the head office of LBS by phone (02.349.67.11).

Can I ask a nurse to come and make a blood test at home ?

It is possible to make an ppointment with the head office of LBS by phone (02.349.67.11).

Can you have a blood sample collected on Saturdays ?

Not at Medicis but the LBS centre , from October 4th, rue Georges et Jacques Martin 2 1150  Brussels (02/762.88.47) is open on Saturdays from 8h30 till 12 h.30. Appointments are not required.

What paperwork do I required ?

Your doctor’s referral and your healthcare sticker (if you are member of a Belgian health fund. )

How much does it cost ?

No payment is required on the day. LBS laboratory sends the invoice directly to your health fund (please bring a health fund sticker or your SIS card). The non refundable cost will be invoiced to you and sent directly to your address a couple weeks after your visit.

Can I request additional tests to be run ?

No, unless specified by your doctor.

Can I receive a copy of the tests results ?

Yes, if you request it in writing.

How long do I have to wait to receive the tests results ?

Results will be available within 3 days of test has been ran. Some exceptions apply.

I still haven’t received my test results, who do I need to contact ?

If results have been requested by one of Medicis’s doctors , you can contact the centre directly. On the other hand if the referral was made by a doctor independent from Medicis, please contact LBS laboratory on 02/349.67.11 for further details.

Do you also cater for children ?

Yes. For the children aged between 0 and 4 years old, an appointment is required (phone 02.762.03.25 to fix an appointment with the nurse). For the children older than 4 years old, no appointment are required.
