Gastro-enterology: consultations

Gastroenterology is the medical speciality that diagnoses digestive diseases relating to the digestive system/ digestive tract from the oesophagus to the anus: oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and the anus (haemorrhoids, etc.).

Gastroenterology also deals with liver, gallbladder and pancreas diseases.

Gastroenterology takes care of lesional matters but also functional issues (functional issues with no apparent lesions). As all symptoms only allow making the partial difference between lesional issues and functional issues, the doctor often needs to run several exams: blood sample, ultrasound, scanners or resonance, isotopic exams and most of all endoscopies.
A complete colonoscopy, for example,  is the most accurate screening test for colorectal cancer.

These exams are also useful to determine general issues that may have a digestive origin/cause ex: an unexplainable anaemia
